Do you need to Scan your Windows Registry frequently?

Main Content No Comments »

You do need to scan your windows registry frequently. While computers can do amazing things and even crunch huge volumes of information, they are very vulnerable. They require files and folders that are in pristine condition to operate smoothly. The operating system requires the registry to be clean and healthy for its error free operation. Any infection, corruption or deletion can cause a number of problems and turn a pleasant experience into a nightmare.

The windows registry is the repository of all references that the operating system needs to make to load the start up programs, hardware, software and applications when Windows is loaded. All applications that are loaded into the system need to leave their references in the Windows Registry if they want the operating system to locate and load the different files for the application. Application uninstallers need to visit the registry and make changes or delete the keys and values if they want to completely remove all references to the programs. However, the ideal install or uninstall program does not exist. Installers can modify files and references of other programs during installation and uninstall programs can forget to collect all their garbage.

So, over a period of time the Windows Registry will be filled with entries, orphaned references and junk files that relate to programs that no longer exist on the system. The existing and relevant references may have been modified by new programs and that can cause the Windows Registry references to existing programs to become corrupted. Either way, the users will experience problems. The modified references will fail to load the files of the applications or may trigger off the blue screen of death. They may even cause the system to hang or freeze indefinitely. The junk files and orphaned entries will be examined and discarded systematically while loading windows, causing the PC performance to deteriorate significantly. In other words the PC will not give optimum performance.

Registry Cleaning software like RegCure, RegSweep, Registry Easy, Registry Fix or Error Doctor are useful applications that locate the errors in the Windows registry and even fix them for you. Users can sit back while RegCure checks the registry and fixes the problems automatically. Advanced users can run Error Doctor or Registry Easy and check the errors one by one for manual or automatic cleaning. They can restore the registry to its pristine condition from the application interface by overwriting the existing Windows Registry with an earlier backup.

Unfortunately most individuals do not think that they need to clean their windows Registry frequently. Newbie users are not even aware of the existence of the Windows Registry and its problems. Such users tackle the problem only when they find that the Windows Registry issues are making their computing experience unpleasant. Alternately, all PC users should get a good registry cleaner and schedule weekly or monthly scans to ensure that the PC performs optimally.
